This is a bottom-up approach that takes market observations, i.e. consumer conversations, as its basis. Once collected, these are organised in groups/buckets and are used to build quantitative models. In short: start from a qualitative approach and build quantitative, statistically significant outcomes/insights or models. The general output can also be viewed as an open-ended approach.
- Online Market Research Surveys (Asking Questions)
This is a top-down approach, defining the questions to ask and then analysing the results of online market research surveys to get to as much granularity as possible. The outcome is a result of a closed-ended approach even if open-ended questions are included in the survey. It is closed- ended in the sense that the only information that is gathered is information that relates to the questions asked.
